There are other tools and methods for rafter layout,
but they all rely on complex mathematics and methods for rafter
layout. Rafter Pro requires no complicated
math or formulas. In addition, no other technique can
compensate for variations in specific pieces of lumber, but Rafter
Pro does. This means less wasted lumber
due to inaccurate measurements.
Rafter Pro is a self-contained tool that will perform
many of the functions of a standard carpenter's square with some
additional components that allow it to do what no other tool can
do. It has a heavy-duty cord that connects to the exclusive one-man-helper.
This part makes it possible to lay out
a rafter unassisted. The metal L-bar adjusts for various
sizes of wood stock and assist in tracing your cuts. And included
carpenter's pencil fits into its own holder. When not in use,
all of the parts fits snugly into the body of the tool.
Here's an overview of how to cut a common rafter
using the Rafter Pro technique:
- Simply attach the one-man-helper to your ridge board and unwind
the cord until the tool reaches the top plate.
- Read your angle. You now have the length of your rafter and
the angle for the seat and tail cuts.
- Make several marketings based on this information and you're
ready to cut!
That's it, you have made a common rafter.
